LOS ANGELES — HBO's new cable news drama by Oscar-winning scribe Aaron Sorkin will be called "Newsroom," TV Newser reported Monday.

The series will follow the antics of the "News Night" staff at a fictional cable news network called UBS.

Actor Jeff Daniels will star in the show as news anchor Will McCallister, while English actress Emily Mortimer will serve as his executive producer.

"Law & Order" veteran Sam Waterston will appear as the network's president Charlie Skinner.

"Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements," according to a description from HBO.

Actresses Alison Pill, Olivia Munn and "Slumdog Millionaire" star Dev Patel will also appear on the show as newsroom staff.

No premiere date has yet been announced.
