Twitter going after buy-more-followers services?

Author: Twitter may be working to stop companies that partake in the controversial practice of selling higher follower counts, according to one Australian company that claims Twitter is trying to shut it down over allegations of spamming.
On Monday morning, a marketing company called uSocial sent out a press release to say that a brand-management firm hired by Twitter (according to some Australian news outlets, the firm in question is called Melbourne IT, whom we have contacted to confirm but not heard back from yet) had contacted it to express concern over spam messages it was supposedly sending through Twitter.
uSocial offers deals like 1,000 new Twitter followers for $87, and made headlines when it claimed that the family of late pop star Michael Jackson had used it to purchase over 25,000 new Twitter followers.
Services that let you buy more followers on Twitter or friends on a social network are controversial, to put it lightly. But uSocial says it isn’t spamming.
“The definition of spam is using electronic messaging to send unsolicited communication and as we don’t use Twitter for this, the claims are false,” uSocial CEO Leon Hill said in the press release.
Twitter could not be immediately reached for comment.

YouTube has close-up video of plane-chopper crash
A video that shows most of the midair collision between a plane and helicopter over the Hudson River last Saturday is available on YouTube.
An Italian tourist was trying to get accustomed to a new video camera during a tour boat cruise and focused his lens on the helicopter. The plane comes into view from behind the helicopter and then appears to clip the helicopter with its right wing.
Before the videographer stops shooting, the plane is recorded flipping over and apparently breaking up in a cloud of debris while both aircraft plunge toward the water. Be advised: the scenes may be upsetting to some.

Verizon completes initial 4G wireless test
Verizon Wireless announced Friday that it has completed initial testing of its 4G wireless service in Boston and Seattle.
Using a new technology called Long Term Evolution (LTE), Verizon was successfully able to complete data calls in Boston and Seattle, the first two cities where the company will deploy its service. Verizon is using the 700 MHz spectrum it bought an FCC auction to build the network. The company plans to start offering the service commercially in 2010, providing service for up to 100 million people in 30 markets. The company plans to have the entire nation covered with 4G service in 2013.

Air traffic controllers suspended over Hudson collision – The CNN Wire
(CNN) — The Federal Aviation Administration has suspended two air traffic controllers over Saturday’s collision of two aircraft over the Hudson that killed nine people, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
The controller handling the flight of a Piper fixed-wing plane carrying three people “was involved in apparently inappropriate conversations on the telephone at the time of the accident,” said spokeswoman Laura Brown in a written statement.
In addition, “the supervisor was not present in the building as required,” she said.
“While we have no reason to believe at this time that these actions contributed to the accident, this kind of conduct is unacceptable and we have placed the employees on administrative leave and have begun disciplinary proceedings,” she said.
The National Transportation Safety Board is working with the FAA in investigating the Piper’s collision with a sightseeing helicopter that was carrying five Italian tourists and a pilot.
No one aboard either aircraft survived the crash.
